Deliria Combat Playstyles
Habits, zero official classes — swap loadouts mid-fight instead of locking a talent tree.
Deliria does not ship a class select screen. Steam describes verbs: swords, guns, bows, magic, building, mounts, pets, summons, and a style rank that climbs toward SSS. This page treats those verbs as playstyles — habits you can swap — not as official class names. If a guide elsewhere sells “the Paladin build,” it is fan fiction.
The habits worth planning on a Steam install (app 3725650, store date listed 2 September 2026):
- Carver and builder
- Melee style-rank fighter
- Gunner
- Bow
- Magic
- Host and town defense
- Creative sandbox
Pair this page with combat for the meter, weapon rankings for named gear, NPC housing for the town that backs you up, and building for walls that are not cubes. Parent hub: NPCs. These habits are readings of playtest, store copy, and the first public build — not a talent-tree patch note.
Carver and builder
Some players will never care about SSS. They will sculpt arenas, hollow mountains, and towns because the terrain has no grid. That is a valid playstyle and often the right first habit. Survival builders still need a door that passes the house scan so someone moves in. VoxelWeaver carving, a pickaxe, and a torch line beat a vanity sword. Bring mining and building if this is you. Visit a biome for materials, not for a boss rush. Your combat job on a Blood Moon is to have already built the wall. Grapple and wings extend the carve; they do not replace it. If dirt refuses to place in the first Steam week, do not abandon the habit — retry, save, and check the install checklist.
Melee style-rank
Melee is how the soundtrack and the letter grade show off. Hits climb the rank; getting hit, getting sloppy, or leaning on one button knocks it down. SSS is a damage bonus for a clean chain, not a title you equip. This habit wants movement, camera control from controls, and the humility to stop swinging at Prince Petry — playtest called melee a bad idea on that slime-prince specifically.
Good melee targets are fights that stay in reach. A flying fiery skull-beast such as Eye of Deliria will punish a grounded hammer stunlock. Save maces for grounded crowds and invasions in the street. Mix a gun tag so the chain does not die when the boss leaves melee range. The boss rankings and boss walkthrough exist so you do not learn that lesson on a HUD you cannot read yet. Named melee toys such as Hell Serpent, Space Ripper, and Bloodbringer can live on this hotbar without turning the habit into a shopping list.
Gunner
Guns already have a public trophy: ShotCopperBullet finished Yoggoth in playtest on a team spawn. That is your proof that copper-tier shooting is not a joke. Play this habit if you like spacing, roofs, and letting NPCs hold the door while you shoot over it. It is also the habit that maps onto multiplayer cleanly: one player staggers, one player shoots. Do not treat dynamite as a gunner style. Playtest used it as a self-own.
A gunner still carries a sword for the style-rank tag. The playstyle is what you lead with when a god wakes, not a ban on melee.
Bow
Bows used a draw-hold charge. Iron and wood showed up in crafting talk; gold was optional if you needed the ore for something else. Petry wanted arrows in the prince, not a heroic dive. This habit loves sightlines: deserts and frozen ridges from the biome rankings, roofs over a town, and the patience to not panic-swing. Knives also tagged from mid range in that slime-prince fight, so a bow user can mix a thrown tool without changing identity.
Magic
Steam lists magic beside swords, guns, and bows. No spell names are published. This habit is real as a slot and empty as a tier list. Do not memorize a fake grimoire. When the client drops a tome with a printed name, it will land on the weapon rankings with a source. Until then, magic is the fourth verb you try after you can already mine, shoot, and not die to a Blood Moon.
If magic later feeds style rank the same way melee does, the combat guide will say so. We will not guess a rotation here to look complete. Soundtrack titles are not spells either.
Host and town defense
Steam lists online and LAN co-op plus PvP. The defender habit is: one world, PvP off, town in the middle, gods on the calendar. You arm residents, you call Yoggoth as a team spawn, you do not split into four solo caves when Hastur starts. English-only UI means your callouts in chat can match the HUD: Eye of Deliria, Yoggoth Has Awoken, Leapus or Lepus if that string appears.
PvP-on is a different habit. Flip it only if everyone in the session agreed. A defender loadout in a PvP world is just a target. Read multiplayer for the toggle, not for invented ranked modes. Spawn pressure in the first Steam week is why this habit starts with a door, not a duel.
Creative sandbox
Creative builders can spawn Prince Petry on team one and Eye of Deliria on team two and watch. That clip is a toy. It does not teach invasions. It will not replace a survival town. Use it to study telegraphs, then go back to a world where the house scan actually matters. Creative is a valid sandbox habit; it is not a skip for Blood Moon.
None of these habits are locked. Swap from sword to bow the moment Petry’s guards close. Playstyles in Deliria are loadouts you change mid-fight, not a talent tree you pick on a character screen. If a later patch adds a class name, this page will quote it. Until then, carry two verbs and a door. Confirm the machine on system requirements, then join Discord from official links so the habit you picked has a group.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Does Deliria have official classes?
No. Steam lists combat verbs and building, not named classes. This page uses playstyles as habits. See combat for the style-rank meter they all share.
What playstyle is best for bosses?
Range for Prince Petry, guns for Yoggoth's playtest kill, movement for Eye of Deliria. Read the boss rankings instead of forcing melee on every HUD name.
Can I mix playstyles?
Yes. Style rank wants a chain, not a single button. Swap weapons mid-fight. Keep a builder's door even if you main a gun. NPCs cover the street while you change loadouts.
Is creative mode a playstyle?
Does co-op change the best playstyle?
It changes the job split. Online and LAN co-op let one player defend while another shoots. PvP-on is a separate agreement. Details sit in multiplayer.
Should a new host pick town defense first?
Yes for the first world: PvP off, one valid house, then a gun or bow. Follow getting started before you main melee style rank.
